How to Support Your Charities

Supporting a charity is one of the most rewarding things you can do in your life.  There are so many people in need out there, and even a small gesture, like buying a Christmas hamper for a hungry family, will make a huge difference in people’s lives.

So if you have been thinking of giving to charity, but are not sure how, here are some great ways to start today:

1. Financial Support

You can support your charities financially by giving one off or regular donations. But before you do, make sure you do some research regarding the charity’s financial status and the many projects they have running. If you still have any lingering questions, don’t hesitate to contact one of the charity’s organisers.

2. Volunteer Work

Volunteer work is a great way to support your chosen charity. You can devote a weekend or an entire day to help out various people in need – elderly patients at the hospital, children at the orphanage, hungry people at soup kitchens. You can also work for a specific cause. For instance, if there has been a natural disaster you can help distribute clothes, food and drinking water to those affected.

3. Help Through Your Profession

There are also many professionals who support their charities in their own unique way. For example, a doctor can give free consultations and diagnoses to the poor and underprivileged, and a lawyer can give free legal consultations.

4. Fundraising Events

Fundraising events are a great way to support your charities. You can make fundraising shows, pageants, sporting events and contests for the benefit of your chosen charity. At the fundraiser you can sell items like gift baskets, souvenirs, baked goods and even handmade crafts, and all the proceeds will go to your charity’s projects.

5. Promotions

Sometimes you can do a lot more for your favorite charity by actively promoting it. You can wear pins, shirts, stickers and hats to show your support or you can be a bit more proactive and hand out flyers.

6. Garage Sales

Garage sales are fantastic for raising money for your charity. The principle behind garage sales is the same to that of fundraisers – all the proceeds will go your chosen charity.

7. Setup a Blog About Your Favourite Charity

Another great way to help out your charity would be to create a blog about it. You can post about recent events or projects that were hosted by the charity, as well as focusing on getting people involved in donating or volunteering.

8. Birthdays and Special Occasions

We all love receiving presents; it is what makes our birthdays so exciting. But a great way to support your favourite charity is to donate your presents to those in need. You don’t have to do this every year, but as a one-off gesture it will be really appreciated by those who are less fortunate.

Whether you decide to donate or volunteer, charity work is so rewarding. So get out there and support your charities today!
