Since opening in November 1990, Ronald McDonald House Perth has provided ‘a home away from home’ to more than 3000 families while their child has undergone treatment for cancer or other serious illnesses at Princess Margaret Hospital. When families have to travel far from home to receive specialized medical care for their sick child, seeking accommodation in an unfamiliar place only adds to their stress and anxiety. Treatments can sometimes take weeks, months or even years and children need their families close by for comfort and reassurance. Though there is no place like home, Ronald McDonald House strives to provide a safe and comfortable environment where the whole family can stay together for the duration of treatment. But Ronald McDonald House (RMH) isn’t just practical resource; it’s a home with a heart. Our House eases the isolation of what can be a very stressful and frightening time by providing a setting in which families can connect and share friendships with other families who are going through similar experiences. The built-in supportive environment of our House together with caring volunteers, staff and donors greatly assists our mission of providing quality care and services to resident families at a time in their life when they need it most.
